Ringing Bells, the company behind the infamous Freedom 251 smartphones is reportedly shutting down and interestingly might open another company too. The Noida-based company had found itself amid a controversy ever since it had launched the Rs 251 smartphone, touted to be the world’s cheapest device. After thousands of consumers who registered for the smartphone did not get their device delivered the company got into many legal problems. Now according to a report in TeleAnalysis, Ringing Bells have closed down the company and opened a new one. The new company, according to the report has been named as MDM Electronics Private Limited. Mohit Goel who was the MD of Ringing Bells will remain in the post in the new company as well. Shashank Goel, also a part of Ringing Bells will remain here and Ashok Chaddha, the face of Ringing Bells, will be the President of MDM. Chaddhwa was also the official spokesperson of the company. Meanwhile, CEO Dharna Goel had also reportedly quit the company.
According to the report in TeleAnalysis, MDM started on December 7 and their office is registered in Kailash colony in New Delhi. There is no information on which area the company will function in or anything about its plans. But given the history, it is expected that it will do business in phones and other consumer electronics. The website for the company Ringing Bells has also been taken down. The company has been mired in controversies from the time it brought the Freedom 251 smartphone and priced it at Rs 251. The smartphone, promised to be delivered at home, was never done even after so many people pre-registered.
